The GAIA paper, has now appeared in Science. Huge credit to Michael Grundler for leading this project! GAIA uses georeferenced tree sequences to infer where shared human genetic ancestors lived through time, yielding a spatiotemporal view of ancestry rather than a single static label. It was a fun collaboration, and I think the paper opens up some interesting new directions at the interface of population genetics, genealogy, and spatial inference.
